Yangster's Paradise & Barbeque Sauce
Celtic are just three wins away from their 55th league title after a 5-2 win over St.Mirren, which sent them 16 points clear of Rangers who lost 2-1 to Motherwell at Ibrox.
Despite what others may believe, there’s nothing quite like the feeling of Celtic on the brink of another title win. And after Saturday’s 5-2 win over St.Mirren in Paisley, Celtic are just three wins away from lifting a 55th league title in their unbroken history.
The win over St.Mirren sealed three points and with it stretched Celtic’s lead at the top of the table to 16 points, after Motherwell beat Rangers 2-1 on the day that new interim boss Barry Ferguson returned to Ibrox. First half goals from Luke Armstrong and Tom Sparrow sealed the win for Motherwell - their second league win over Rangers in 61 games! Barbeque Sauce!
Today’s result for Celtic doesn’t tell the true story of the game. It wasn’t your typical, comfortable victory as St.Mirren made Brendan Rodgers’ side work for the win. The first half was anyone’s game - Jeffrey Schlupp opened the scoring with a superb strike curling it inside the far post for his first goal for the club. St.Mirren soon equalised through a superb set piece from Declan John. Just before the break, Arne Engels converted a penalty to make it 2-1.
Minutes into the second half, and St.Mirren were once again level through Killian Phillips. It was at this point, it looked like the game wouldn’t sit in Celtic’s favour. Enter Yang, Jota, and McCowan for Kuhn, McGregor, and Idah. Rodgers’ substitutions after the hour mark changed the course of the game.
First McCowan struck the post with a thunderous strike, before Yang scored twice - sandwiching a Maeda strike - securing the game and all three points.
The league was a foregone conclusion long before now, but today’s win leaves Celtic just three wins away from a fourth title in a row!
So, bring on the Hibs. Bring on Rangers. Bring on Hearts. The title is within touching distance, and you better believe we’re far from bored.
